Over 95 years ago the Nebraska legislature began a tradition of teaching in Kearney.  It began in 1905 as Kearney Normal School., then was renamed Kearney State Teachers College.  From that, to Kearney State College, and then in the early 1990's it became part of the University of Nebraska and was named as it is known today as UNK.  The tradition of teaching is the cornerstone of the institution & it is the one part of our foundation that will not change.  The University of Nebraska at Kearney is an affirmative action/equal opportunity institution.
